About this author: Jane Tyska began photographing at age five on a kindergarten field trip to the Bronx zoo, and hasn?t stopped since. She is currently a staff photographer at ANG Newspapers, publishers of six dailies including The Oakland Tribune. Jane freelanced for the Associated Press and the Boston Globe before her move to the San Francisco Bay Area. In her 15-year career, Jane has traveled and photographed through South America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Asia. She traveled to Haiti with the New England Observers Delegation to document human rights abuses, and was in Romania and the Czech Republic during the fall of communism. In the past few years, she has been to China, Tibet, Mongolia and Burma. Jane has also shot and edited video for many years and produced several short films. ?The Sweethearts of Abu Ghraib? won an honorable mention in the short feature category in the 2004 Berkeley Film Festival. She is new to the multimedia arena, and is currently working on Flash movies from her three trips to the Gulf Coast covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Jane is represented by Stock Boston and her photos have appeared in: The New York Times, The LA Times, The Boston Globe , The Boston Herald , The San Francisco Chronicle, The San Francisco Examiner and USA Today.
