Amanda Williams is an architect/artist originally from
Chicago, IL. She combines her artistic and architectural
sensibilities to create works that are narrative and experiential.
Amanda collages found objects (photographs, magazine clippings,
rap lyrics, Biblical verses) into her work to allude to
personal memory and history. She applies drips, scribbles
and sheer glazes of paint to create additional layers
of meaning. Her work asks the viewer/inhabitant to challenge
their ideas about identity and place. She received her
B. Arch from Cornell University and was the 2004 winner
of Hennessy’s Emerging Artist Award. Amanda has
exhibited in New York, Chicago and the Bay Area. She now
lives and works in Oakland, CA.
