Listing stories: IKR Volume 003
Welcome to IKR Volume 003, which has a special focus on "Images Speak Words," the youth photography and writing project carried out in conjunction with MoAD's "Lens of Life" Exhibit.
Instead of taking photos, the kids learned to "make" photos and use their eyes to "see what others don't see." They used the cameras to explore the people and places of San Francisco - from City Hall to the Western Addition and points in between. They also took their camera home and documented their daily home life, their families and their neighborhoods. The result? Each child produced more than 300 images, of which, they had to choose/edit a select few for display in their final exhibit and only one photo for which they would learn to write and record a story for IKR. Those stories, which are the result of each child learning basic journalistic writing skills such as reporting, research, fact-checking, sequential detailing of events, interviewing, profile writing, and digital recording, are presented here for the first time.
In addition to these great youth projects, don't miss the stories submitted by other members of the growing IKR community.
